Alrighty folks!
If you missed yesterday's show, you missed one heck of a radio interview! Never fear, though, as we can it archived HERE!
The Renegade Farmer was pleased and privileged to interview Raw Milk activist Michael Schmidt...with a Masters in agriculture, and high training in dairy prep, Mr. Schmidt was responsible for the creation of one of the first organic dairies in his native Germany. He later replicated this dairy standard when he moved to Ontario in the 80's. His organic and biodynamic were such that he eventually set up a cow-share for those locals looking for raw milk. In turn, the government actively began persecuting him, confiscating his products, damaging equipment, surveying him and his family, and actively pursuing him in court. After 17 years of harassment, Schmidt began a hunger strike a month ago in an effort to garner attention, and to seek an audience with Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty. Mr. Schmidt still maintains his fast to this day.
Folks, this is one of the more compelling interviews we've ever done. While some folks may argue both the benefits, and the drawbacks of drinking raw milk, know this: our stance is that consumers are allowed to make INFORMED choices about what foods they eat, without penalty to those who provide it. This is especially noted since most governmental systems in North America will treat the small farmer like a criminal with these so called laws, while they allow every sort of GMO/highly pesticided/big corporation product on supermarket shelves. Further, raw milk CAN now be tested to see if there are any harmful bacteria/disease present, so it's not simply a matter of saying that raw milk is dangerous for you.
These are just some of the things we discuss with Michael Schmidt. If you are interested in more on Michael, you can check him out on Facebook HERE

On a personal note, the one section of interview that stood out, in my opinion, is Mr. Schmidt's recounting ot the Holocaust Era which he lived through. Chillingly told is the idea that so much horror happened within his homeland because so many saw things, and either did nothing, or waited until it was too late to do the right thing. This sort of thing colored the way he would respond to what he believed he would be right, in this instance, food justice.
My question--and his--is how long do WE wait and what do we do to fight for the right thing in the name of honest food (and so much more)?
In the meantime, please listen to our interview. And again, many thanks to Mr. Schmidt for gracing us with his presence!
